Danish & Norwegian Links

November 29th, 2006 4 comments

There are two new links under “News Sources” (right). Because I have many Scandinavian visitors to this blog, I want to include their royal families as well! The Swedish Royals are frequently included in Aftenposten Norway’s news, but if you have a particular Swedish royal site you’d like to see, please let me know.

It’s been a big year for sporty royal Zara Phillips, after she won a gold medal at the World Equestrian Games and was then honoured again at the Horse Of The Year show. Beethoven was an Anglophile!

A new “At A Glance” link has been added. Beethoven: British Patriot was added so people could learn a little about Ludwig van Beethoven, the German composer and pianist. He held Britain and the British in high esteem, and set both of Britain’s most well-known patriotic songs to piano music.

“Rule, Britannia!” is a patriotic British national song, originating from the poem “Rule, Britannia” by James Thomson, and set to music by Thomas Arne in 1740.

“God Save the King/Queen” is a patriotic hymn, and the national anthem of the United Kingdom. It is also one of the two national anthems of New Zealand, and the royal anthem of Canada, Australia, and the other Commonwealth Realms, as well as the royal anthem of the British Royal Family.
