What Not To Wear, Mandy-style

Let’s face it: Trinny and Susanna know what they’re talking about.

The hosts of the tv show “What Not To Wear” provide a fashion fix for many. I now take a page from their book and lend some advice to young girls and women today.

Let me just say this: I am not some fashion diva. I could care less what people are wearing on catwalks and could give two parakeet poos about what Vogue has to say. However, I do think people need to look their best whether it be elegant or casual. Too many women are walking around looking like they are on the pull. Worse, it’s filtering down to our young girls, which I think is a bad sign.

I’ve seen the way royal women dress, and it is almost always beautiful, elegant, and simple. Class acts all the way. If you’d like to emulate your favorite royal, then take the tips from below.

1.) If you are going somewhere casual, then dress casual. Pairing big earrings, knee-high high-heeled boots, and a low cut shirt is not ideal for a barbeque or school outing.

2.) Don’t overdo gold. It looks terrible in large amounts. Little pendants, slender bracelets, and small earrings are good choices.

3.) Don’t wear advertisements. Don’t want to be labeled? Then don’t wear a brand. At least not so blatantly. There have got to be some shirts in this world that don’t say Abercrombie & Fitch. ;-)

4.) Don’t wear trousers or shorts with words printed on the behind. This screams, “I need someone to look at me!” Do you want people to look at you because you look nice, or because your clothes are verbally insisting that they do?

5.) If you have an ample posterior, don’t wear ’short shorts’. The more thigh that is exposed does not equal more sexiness. Instead, find lovely knee-length skirts that are form fitting yet easily breathable. In other words, don’t wear something too tight.

6.) Speaking of tight, let’s avoid that awful spill of the gut over the tops of jeans that are 3 sizes too small. This is what is known as a “Muffin Top”, a faux pas perpetrated by all sorts of women and girls. If you are determined to continue in this way, however, then I pray that you have a contingency plan for when you split your seams in public.

7.) Always carry a small sewing kit.

8.) Try to wear lots of cottons and linens. They are quality fabrics that look classy and simple.

9.) Don’t dress like you are a teenager if you are 25 or older. You’ve matured past that stage physically, and your wardrobe should, too.

That’s all for now. I hope you’ve enjoyed this mini-What Not To Wear!
