Queen’s medal ‘unlawful’ for being too Christian

The Privy Council has ruled in favor of the Muslims and Hindus of Trinidad and Tobago, saying that the Trinity Cross awarded to them is unconstitutional because of its associations with Christianity.

So, despite getting an award for distinguished service and bravery, not mention that it was instituted 40 years ago, the decoration will now be withdrawn.

That slap in the face stings a bit, though now the Queen and government know better – no medals to anyone unless they are carded and stamped at the door as being ok with Christianity or an actual Christian. Otherwise… lawsuit!

Thought bubble: Christian person lives in a country that has a Muslim/Hindu/etc. head of state. They are awarded for good service, but instead of accepting the honor graciously, they sue the Muslim/Hindu/etc. system because of the non-Christian imagery on the award.

I don’t suppose I have to yammer on about the obvious outcome of that scenario.

It is not just a Muslim v. Christian issue.  No sir. This is clearly a “We Don’t Like England and Her Ideals” stance in general.

Take, for instance, Christine Grahame, a member of the Scottish Parliament, who said the George Medal was “clearly very Anglocentric” and unsuitable for Scots.

How very awful of King George VI to bestow the highest civilian award for bravery on someone. His Majesty had that honor created so that he could personally recognize all that the people of the realm did in the war effort. That’s so very Anglo-centric and evil. Not at all suitable.

Fair warning: next time, England will just ignore you. After you slap someone in the face enough, they get the picture.

  • Who cares about an old name? All I care about is how they represent England and the Queen embraces the country and does a good job. Even many republicans give her credit.

It is pretty obvious that much of the resentment towards England is because of the German lineage in the Royal family. The constant bantering about the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha name is proof. The Georges were not popular in England and they barely paid any attention to the country. But Queen Victoria considered herself English through and through. She helped her children make important dynastic marriages in other nations in order to give England more allies. The Queen thought always of England! So did Albert! The royal family has been extremely English ever since.

I know that WWI and WWII didn't help, but it's time to let it go! The Royals are about as German as Bertie Wooster.
  • The UK is not non-religious. There is a very strong religion there right now, it just isn't Christianity like it was a generation ago.

The thing that saddens me is that while Britain is being tolerant and diverse, others do not reciprocate - hence my "thought bubble" mid-post. What would happen if someone countered what the Privy council ruled? Would that be seen as racist/zealous? There would be no understanding if it went the other way.

As far as the Scots are concerned, I feel disappointed that they dislike the English so much. Of course, there are reasons, I'm sure, but it is sad regardless. While other races around the world move at a frightening speed and gather strength in unity, the people of the British isles want to separate and have nothing to do with each other.

"while other... gather strength in unity" ??? As soon as they got the chance other nations have tried to shake of the chains of England. The US, Canada, Ireland, India, Australia, half of Africa, and numerous other nations around the world. Coincidence or a realisation that all is now right with "mother England". Incidentally, I shouldn't need to point this out, but your Queen (whose real name is Saxe-Coburg) ain't English anyway, she is a German, married to a Greek. The sooner Scotland becomes an independent republic the better for all and perhaps then England can stand on its own two feet, and stop sucking the economic lifeblood out of countries it once painted red (normally with the blood of the indigenous people who lived there) and move on.

I understand what you're saying Mandy, but the UK is becoming a very non-religious country. Having been there many times and having friends there, I've seen how most British subjects find religion an archaic holdover from the past. Most could care less. Also, the UK has gone a long way in becoming a more tolerant and diverse society. I can see the wisdom of doing away with or replacing certain awards if they are offensive. As far as the whole Scots vs. English controversy. Most Scots are not all that thrilled with being in the UK. I think we'll see them form their own separate nation in the next 20 years or less, much as the Republic of Ireland did, but probably with a lot less bloodshed. Most Scots are very resentful of the English, and want little to do with them. I'm a traditional Royalist myself, but I can see the wisdom of changing some things to fit with modern society. I sincerely hope the monarchy will survive when the Queen passes on.
