Other Royals Visit The USA!

To prove that Americans are not interested only in the British Royal Family, here’s some news: Prince Harry is not the only royal in the U.S. lately!

Do I need to fetch the smelling salts?

Their Majesties King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden have also been paying a visit to the states. They stopped in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a brief to the American Swedish Historical Museum and some of our famous national monuments at the Independence National Historical Park.
The royal couple moved on to Delaware to celebrate the first Swedish settlement in the USA.

Their Norwegian cousins, Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit have also been here, their journey taking them west to Texas and California.

Mette-Marit and her husband visited the Offshore Technology conference, toured the Norwegian Seamen’s Church in San Francisco, and the Crown Prince gave a talk at a seminar about tourism in San Francisco, hosted by Innovation Norway. Their visit has primarily focused on promoting Norwegian innovation.

Popular Prince Harry Hits The States

Prince HarryOur Hazza has touched down in D.C. for his week-long tour. Cue the sighing women holding signs proposing marriage wherever Harry goes! It’s time to play Popular Prince Harry Hits The States!

Lucky First Lady Michelle Obama greeted Britain’s most eligible bachelor as arrived in the States. Attending a reception held in honor of military mothers and their children, Prince Harry surprised the assembled guests with his presence. He also visited an exhibition by The Halo Trust, a landmine charity supported by his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

Harry will visit Arlington National Cemetery tomorrow, and then move on to survey Hurricane Sandy damage in New Jersey. Harry’s visit will continue in New York, where he will further promote charities supporting injured servicemen. He will also be a spokesman for British interests and promote his own charities, such as Sentebale.

One thing is for sure: Harry won’t be visiting Las Vegas with friends this time around. It’s all business on this trip. He learned the hard way that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t stay in Vegas. Especially when you happen to be royalty!

In Memoriam: Margaret Thatcher Dies After Stroke

Margaret Thatcher Baroness Margaret Thatcher has died.

The former British Prime Minister, known as “The Iron Lady”, died after suffering a stroke. She was 87.

Margaret Hilda Thatcher, who later became Baroness Thatcher, was the only female Prime Minister in British history, holding the post for 11 years (1979-1990). Thatcher was a close ally of U.S. President Ronald Reagan, whose term in office ran parallel to hers (1981-1989).

While Thatcher shared a good relationship with America’s Head of State, her own was more of a mystery to her. Thatcher was known to be extremely obsequious towards the Queen in public; the Queen thought Lady Thatcher a bit cold, but respected her. Their relationship was cordial, but the monarch’s non-confrontational personality did not gel with the oft-confrontational and pragmatic Iron Lady.

Thatcher stepped down in 1990, and John Major took the reins of power.

Current PM David Cameron eulogized Thatcher as “the patriot Prime Minister” who believed that Britain was a significant power on the world stage and should be proud of its contributions. Her famous “No! No! No!” speech in Parliament honestly and concisely declared her antipathy for closer European integration.

Due to declining health, Thatcher left public life entirely in 2002.

Baroness Thatcher (née Roberts) was born October 13, 1925. She is survived by her children, Mark and Carol. Her husband, Denis Thatcher, predeceased her in 2003.

Fresh off of their Middle East tour, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall attended the new Archbishop of Canterbury’s enthronement on Thursday. TRH were among 2,000 guests at Canterbury Cathedral in Kent.

The Most Reverend Justin Welby, 57, is the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury, the new leader of the 85 million-strong Anglican global communion.

Alarmingly, a man was arrested after allegedly running at a car carrying the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall before the enthronement ceremony.

At this time he has only been identified as a 47-year-old male from Whitstable, detained on suspicion of breach of the peace. His intent is not known.
