A modern monarchy, American-style

September 25th, 2009 1 comment

I bet you didn’t know it, but the United States is … a monarchy.

What!?

Don’t worry: this is familiar territory for us. We were a monarchy once before when King George III was king of the New England colonies. That is, up until the Revolutionary War. After the war, we threw off the shackles and forged a new identity as a free nation without titles or hereditary positions….

Monarchy will never die. Here’s why.

Many people like to think they’re above the fantasy of royalty. Serious people dress in suits, work in an office in a capitol building, and they certainly don’t wear crowns! Hmph!

In truth,  fame, money, and the trappings of titles are things that people dream about. Some even make it a reality.

The American media loves the Kennedys and once proclaimed Jackie O. as their “Queen”. The former first lady even had frocks and hats made in the style of Her Majesty’s outfits.

“Australia Needs King Harry”

August 22nd, 2009 No comments

J. Marc Schmidt of Australia says that he doesn’t want a president.

“Our head of state ought to be one of us. We rejected the idea of our own president once, and with good cause, because a president is not what we need,” says Schmidt. “We need something more; a living, breathing symbol of our land.”

That said, Schmidt doesn’t want Queen Elizabeth II as Australia’s head of state, either. He thinks that Prince Harry should become an Australian citizen and become their king.

Speaking of Gordons….

It looks like PM Brown needs to fill up his checklist, and quick.

Honours system quotas? Just pull your weight!

July 12th, 2009 No comments

This is so appalling:

Honours system quotas to decorate more women and ethnic minorities – Telegraph.

I guess you don’t have to worry about doing anything of merit anymore; you just have to be a woman or a minority.

Speaking as a woman, I would turn down an honor simply because of my sex. If, for instance,  I wanted to be honored by the Queen, I want it to be because Her Majesty appreciates my work promoting the value of a monarchy and Anglo-American relations. Not because the government wants to look good for the extremely uptight Politically Correct brigade.

Isn’t this why people were initially suspicious of the new Elizabeth Cross? Some said it was touching for the Queen to institute such an honor, and some said that if it was merely a Gordon Brown stunt designed to distract, they’d be angry.

Well, this is a government stunt, and I’m angry.  The Queen should not be a part of this tacky political arena.

My Republican Poem

April 11th, 2009 No comments

Republicans
by MandysRoyalty

They love Presidents and pandering,
and they’ll protest on your lawn.

We say no to a Republic,
so why do they keep on?

Going to the polls is relatively easy.
I’m aware of what I’m voting,
there is no feeling queasy.

You pull the lever, mark your vote,
Yet still the Queen is a scapegoat.

It is not she who is unfair,
Blame Gordon Brown, Parliament,
or bloody Tony Blair.

So the next time they come knocking,
you’ll know just what to do.
Tell them that you voted,
and that the Queen inspired you.
