Greek Royals’ Brood Expands

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece gave birth to her fifth child, a son, the day before her thirteenth wedding anniversary with her husband, Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece.

The new baby joins the royal couple’s four other children: 11-year-old Maria-Olympia, nine-year-old Constantine Alexios, and three-year-old Odysseas-Kimon.

While the family continue to use their royal titles, the Greek monarchy was actually abolished in 1974 with the rise of the Hellenic Republic. The king is referred to as “ex-King” Constantine of Greece.

The former Marie-Chantal Miller, daughter of the duty-free shops “king” Robert Miller, married Prince Pavlos July 1, 1995 in a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony in London.

A Son for the Wessex Family

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, gave birth to a healthy boy yesterday.

It was reported that HRH would deliver her second child via caesarian this Friday, but it occurred Monday instead.

The life of the Countess and first child Louise hung in the balance in 2003, when the baby was delivered via emergency C-section. Two years prior to the birth of Louise, Sophie  had to be airlifted to hospital after suffering an ectopic pregnancy.

So this successful pregnancy has Sophie and her husband, HRH Prince Edward, “absolutely thrilled!” His mother The Queen and the entire Royal Family couldn’t agree more!

Baby Updates - Countess of Wessex Due Friday

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, had been due to give birth on Christmas Day but will now have her baby delivered by a scheduled caesarean section this Friday.

This is the second child for Sophie and her husband, HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. Their first child, Lady Louise, is four years old.

No chances are being taken this time around after what happened with Louise’s dramatic entrance into the world. Sophie had to be rushed to the hospital for an emergency “C section” after having severe pain and a considerable loss of blood. Louise was four weeks premature, and mother and daughter had to remain in hospital for some time before they were allowed to go home.

HRH Princess Ariane of Orange-Nassau

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and his wife, Crown Princess Maxima, named their new daughter Ariane Wilhelmina Máxima Ines. She is fourth in line to the throne behind her father and sisters Princess Amalia and Princess Alexia.

The name Ariane was chosen because Willem and Maxima thought it was lovely, and wanted to keep the trend of starting their childrens’ names with an “A”. This Ariane can share with her sisters Alexia and Amalia (although Amalia’s first name is technically Catharina-Amalia).

The name Wilhelmina was chosen to honor Willem’s great-grandmother Queen Wilhelmina.

The name Máxima was chosen not just for the Crown Princess herself, but for her own great-grandmother, also named Máxima.

Ines is another family name, the name of Máxima’s youngest sister.

Congratulations, Willem and Maxima!!
