Having a family that is part Irish, I was raised on the Clancy Brothers’ music. Now, the High Kings have come along and have become the new Clancy Brothers for me. The son of Bobby Clancy is in this group actually (on the far right).
I simply had to share. This should definitely put you in the mood for Saint Patrick’s Day. (Should there be a “Mandy’s Irish Royalty”? :D)
The beautiful 22-year-old Claire Jones has become the third person to take on the role of Official Harpist to the Prince of Wales. Jones, who has been playing the harp since the age of ten, will make her debut in the role on Wednesday at a black-tie dinner hosted by Prince Charles at Cardiff Castle.
“I’m absolutely delighted. It’s such an honour to have been given this role.” - Claire Jones
Jones, who is working on her first album, takes over from the current post holder Jemima Phillips who was appointed in July 2004. Catrin Finch was the very first harpist appointed, back in 2000. It was the first time the royal family had accorded such an honor since the reign of Queen Victoria.
A new “At A Glance” link has been added. Beethoven: British Patriot was added so people could learn a little about Ludwig van Beethoven, the German composer and pianist. He held Britain and the British in high esteem, and set both of Britain’s most well-known patriotic songs to piano music.
“Rule, Britannia!” is a patriotic British national song, originating from the poem “Rule, Britannia” by James Thomson, and set to music by Thomas Arne in 1740.
“God Save the King/Queen” is a patriotic hymn, and the national anthem of the United Kingdom. It is also one of the two national anthems of New Zealand, and the royal anthem of Canada, Australia, and the other Commonwealth Realms, as well as the royal anthem of the British Royal Family.
My list of great songs and videos at YouTube! [Note: Eddie Izzard clips may contain salty language]
Just a little insight into your favorite Royal historian. :-)
