On August 6th, the Danish royal court announced that Crown Princess Mary is pregnant with twins.
Princess Mary, the former Mary Donaldson of Australia, married Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederick in 2004. Their elder children are Prince Christian, 4, and Princess Isabella, 3.
This will be the first time a set of twins has been born into the Danish royal house, according to Dag Trygsland Hoelseth (see his blog). He explains that there are twins in the extended family (Countesses Camilla and Josephine of Rosenborg), but there have never been twins in the immediate Royal Family.
The twins are expected to be born in January of next year.
Royal births abound this year! Lady Davina Lewis, daughter of the Duke of Gloucester, has just given birth to her first child, and her sister Rose is expecting her first child in July. Now the ever-handsome Peter Phillips has announced that his wife Autumn is also expecting.
Due this December, the baby will be the first great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. It is touching that Peter is the first one of their grandchildren to have a child of his own – he was the Queen’s first grandchild, the son of HRH Princess Anne.
There were a few raised eyebrows over the sale of Peter and Autumn’s wedding photos to Hello! magazine. Married in 2008, the couple gave Hello! exclusive access and were paid a considerable sum of money for allowing the magazine to publish their photos. The Court and the Family were less than thrilled, so I wonder if the couple will allow a photo shoot with the new baby?
Congratulations to the Royal Family and especially to Peter and Autumn.
Congratulations to Prince Joachim and Princess Marie of Denmark. The Princess gave birth earlier today to a six pound, 11 ounce boy.
The royal grandparents, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik, visited Marie in the hospital and both mother and son are said to be well.
This child is the third son for Joachim. His previous marriage to the former Princess Alexandra of Denmark produced sons Prince Nikolai, 9, and Prince Felix, 7.
Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary may be pregnant, reports Danish magazine Billed Bladet.
The 37-year-old royal has been spotted visiting her obstetrician with her husband, Crown Prince Frederik.
Billed Bladet continues, saying Mary and Frederik have made a number of visits to Dr. Morten Hedegaard, arriving at his offices at the Riget hospital via a secret underground tunnel.
The couple have two children – Christian, three years old, and Isabella, one year.

Jonathan Aitken is of ‘royal blood’, claims the book by Dutch historian Cees Fasseur.
In a previous post I mentioned that Cees Fasseur had recently published a book about the marriage of Queen Juliana of the Netherlands and her husband Prince Bernhard. Queen Juliana, if you’ll remember, abdicated in 1980 in favor of her daughter Beatrix, the current Queen.
Jonathan Aitken, the former British Tory minister once convicted of perjury and sentenced to 18 months in jail, appears to be a part of their story.
According to Fasseur’s book, Aitken is Bernhard’s unrecognised, illegitimate son. If this is true, it means that 66-year-old Aitken is a half-brother to Queen Beatrix.
Fasseur suggests that Aitken is the product of a wartime affair between Bernhard and Aitken’s mother, Penelope.
