From the Telegraph:

Prince William has echoed the environmental beliefs of his father at a charity event. Should the Princes take an active role in how Britain is run?

Speaking as a teacher, I think the Princes – especially William – need a better education first. Being well-educated in this day and age is of immeasurable value. This is what we tell our children, and the Princes should be no exception. Their money and position gives them carte blanche to attend only the finest institutions, and they should not take that for granted.

Training with the country’s armed forces is, of course, admirable and right. When kingship calls upon William, however, he needs to be educated across the board in everything from political science to conservation. The military is only a part of the responsibilities, just as art and geography are only part of the education.

Will the Prince be ready? Should Harry be at the forefront with him?

What are your thoughts?

[picappgallerysingle id="6760847"]

Prince William may jump the royal queue soon.

At least, that’s what the media thinks will happen. The Mail on Sunday has dubbed the prince “the shadow king”, poised to take over for Queen Elizabeth II and bypassing his father Charles in the line of succession.

The British broadsheet claims that they have obtained a secret treasury document, uncensored, revealing that William will be taking on more royal responsibilities in the coming year. Monies have been allotted for his travel expenses so that he can represent the Queen all over the world.

The Queen, at 83, is said to be looking for the younger members to pick up some of the royal workload. At age 27 and second-in-line to the throne, William is the forerunner to represent the House of Windsor. His blonde good looks and love life make good reading. The spirit of Diana also hangs over William, fueling the dreams of her admirers that the Princess lives on in her son.

The Queen, who has been head of the dynasty for over 50 years, is very savvy when it comes to the job of monarchy. She knows that William is very popular and his youth will be a boon to their image. When he marries, it will draw huge crowds to England and give the economy a boost. Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla could end up on the back burner.

But will the traditional Elizabeth break the rules of hereditary monarchy and officially skip a generation? Something tells me that this child of the abdication era will not do so.

Many people like to think they’re above the fantasy of royalty. Serious people dress in suits, work in an office in a capitol building, and they certainly don’t wear crowns! Hmph!

In truth, fame, money, and the trappings of titles are things that people dream about. Some even make it a reality.

The American media loves the Kennedys and once proclaimed Jackie O. as their “Queen”. The former first lady even had frocks and hats made in the style of Her Majesty’s outfits.

An American Royal Family?

Activist Jesse Jackson was recently crowned an African prince by the Agni people of the Ivory Coast. The same nation also crowned the late Michael Jackson king back in 1992. Michael, the crazy musician famed for hits such as “Thriller” and “Billie Jean”, even named his sons Prince Michael and Prince Michael II.

It’s not just Americans who desire to live in regal fantasy with royal power and the respect of a nation. The English have the same desire – and fuel ours – with their very real Monarchy. Some of the public like it, some don’t, but all can agree that it has cast a spell over the world. Even the tiny Kingdom of Tonga celebrated the coronation of its newest king in an English style – crown, scepter, robes, and throne. His name is even King George. That’s influence a politician can only dream of, and will most likely never have.

Just off the coast of England, there is even a tiny principality named Sealand that is controlled by a ‘royal family’. Just to warn you: it doesn’t have casinos or yachts in a harbor. “Sealand” is actually an anti-aircraft platform beyond the boundary of the U. K.’s territorial waters called Roughs Tower.

Roy Bates, a former Major in the British Army, ran the legendary Radio Essex from Knock John Tower in the 1960s. When convicted in 1966 of violating British broadcasting law, he moved his broadcasting equipment to Roughs Tower where he established himself as “Prince Roy” and renamed the platform Sealand. Roy Bates’ son, Michael, has been referred to as the “Prince Regent” by the family since 1999. Bates’ wife is “Princess Joan”.

This principality isn’t joking around, either. They’ve minted coins, issued stamps, composed a national anthem, and have even had a row with the Germans. They look like they’re here to stay.

As long as human beings have the need for a regal leader and that dream of enchantment, the concept of monarchy will never die. That’s not a rallying cry; it’s the truth.

If you didn’t know about it before, you certainly will now.

Dutch TV series Blauw Bloed (Blue Blood) chronicles the latest news and events in the royal families of Europe – specifically the Dutch Royal House headed by Queen Beatrix.

I wasn’t aware that this program existed, but thanks to a nice trip through the depths of YouTube, I found a “promo” video. It looks great and definitely made me want to watch the program, even though I don’t speak or understand Dutch at all. Ah, the power of Royalty!

Theodore Harvey of RoyalWorld has written a truly wise post about the differences between an unelected head of state in a constitutional monarchy vs. an elected politician. Theodore says:
