“Australia Needs King Harry”

August 22nd, 2009 No comments

J. Marc Schmidt of Australia says that he doesn’t want a president.

“Our head of state ought to be one of us. We rejected the idea of our own president once, and with good cause, because a president is not what we need,” says Schmidt. “We need something more; a living, breathing symbol of our land.”

That said, Schmidt doesn’t want Queen Elizabeth II as Australia’s head of state, either. He thinks that Prince Harry should become an Australian citizen and become their king.

Queen Rania: Power to the people

August 21st, 2009 4 comments

Queen Rania of Jordan is a dynamic, modern monarch: she challenges Arab stereotypes, advocates for Jordanian women, and has established scholarships in business studies. Her Majesty will then report on her day’s events through the micro-blogging site Twitter. But the glamorous Rania insists she’s simply a mom of four with “a really cool day job”.

La Cite de la Reussite 2008 Day 3

Rania’s father, Dr. Faisal Al-Yassin, encouraged his children to go to school and work hard. It is no wonder then that the most important thing in life to the Queen is a good education. She is admired for her blunt opinions about better treatment for women and children and feels that as long as they are educated, they have the opportunity to change the world for the better. The Queen herself has a degree in Business Administration from the American University in Cairo.

Madrasati, launched by Queen Rania in April 2008, brings together public, private and non-profit partners in an initiative to renovate public schools in urgent need of repair. Led by Her Majesty, Madrasati has thoroughly modernized and enriched 500 schools across Jordan to give the children maximum opportunities.

The Queen has brought this ambition to a worldwide level by throwing her weight behind 1GOAL, an ambitious campaign that will support the education of children living in poverty in over 200 countries. 1GOAL successfully launched yesterday at Wembley Stadium in London, led by Queen Rania and footballer Gary Lineker.

With 70% of our population under the age of 30, we have the chance to completely revitalize our economy, revolutionize our infrastructure and develop Jordan’s potential. – Queen Rania

You will be able to find photos and video of the event at http://www.join1goal.org/ and at Queen Rania’s official website QueenRania.jo

Kate’s update: ‘In training’

August 11th, 2009 No comments

Love is in the heir for Sweden’s Princess Victoria AND her sister Princess Madeleine. Now Britons are really getting impatient for their own future sovereign to walk down the aisle. Thankfully, they may not have to wait too much longer.

Word on the street is that Kate Middleton has climbed another rung on the royal ladder. The 27-year-old girlfriend of Prince William of Wales is reportedly being taught how to be a “fully-fledged” princess and member of the royal family. This means Kate has moved up a level from “in waiting” to “in training”, indicating that a British royal wedding may not be far away.

46664 Concert: In Celebration Of Nelson Mandelas Life - Performance

We all remember the issues William’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales had when she married into the royal family. Even though she came from an old aristocratic English family, Lady Di could not cope with the pressure. The prince’s aunt, Sarah Ferguson, also struggled to cope when she married Prince Andrew, Duke of York. Sarah could not spend money nor get embroiled in a passionate affair fast enough. The marriage imploded after 6 years.

With these two previous women in mind, the Palace has made darn sure that Kate Middleton will make a smooth transition from commoner to a true princess. She will be the next Queen of England, barring any unforseen tragedies or abdications. Kate needs to be a capable consort, able to fill the Queen Mother’s perfect shoes.

Zara Phillips wedding bets…er, bells

August 3rd, 2009 1 comment

I wonder if Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall will wed first, and then we’ll see an engagement between William and Kate.

Since Wills is an heir to the throne, his wedding will be a huge deal. The family and the courtiers will be all a-twitter trying to organize such a big state event. He loves cousin Zara to pieces, so I imagine that Wills wouldn’t dream of upstaging her time in the sun of wedding planning.

I bet William will wait until Zara and Mike are married to propose to Kate. That’s my prediction.

It looks like PM Brown needs to fill up his checklist, and quick.

Honours system quotas? Just pull your weight!

July 12th, 2009 No comments

This is so appalling:

Honours system quotas to decorate more women and ethnic minorities – Telegraph.

I guess you don’t have to worry about doing anything of merit anymore; you just have to be a woman or a minority.

Speaking as a woman, I would turn down an honor simply because of my sex. If, for instance,  I wanted to be honored by the Queen, I want it to be because Her Majesty appreciates my work promoting the value of a monarchy and Anglo-American relations. Not because the government wants to look good for the extremely uptight Politically Correct brigade.

Isn’t this why people were initially suspicious of the new Elizabeth Cross? Some said it was touching for the Queen to institute such an honor, and some said that if it was merely a Gordon Brown stunt designed to distract, they’d be angry.

Well, this is a government stunt, and I’m angry.  The Queen should not be a part of this tacky political arena.

Queen’s medal ‘unlawful’ for being too Christian

May 8th, 2009 10 comments

The Privy Council has ruled in favor of the Muslims and Hindus of Trinidad and Tobago, saying that the Trinity Cross awarded to them is unconstitutional because of its associations with Christianity.

So, despite getting an award for distinguished service and bravery, not mention that it was instituted 40 years ago, the decoration will now be withdrawn.

That slap in the face stings a bit, though now the Queen and government know better – no medals to anyone unless they are carded and stamped at the door as being ok with Christianity or an actual Christian. Otherwise… lawsuit!

Thought bubble: Christian person lives in a country that has a Muslim/Hindu/etc. head of state. They are awarded for good service, but instead of accepting the honor graciously, they sue the Muslim/Hindu/etc. system because of the non-Christian imagery on the award.

I don’t suppose I have to yammer on about the obvious outcome of that scenario.

It is not just a Muslim v. Christian issue.  No sir. This is clearly a “We Don’t Like England and Her Ideals” stance in general.

Take, for instance, Christine Grahame, a member of the Scottish Parliament, who said the George Medal was “clearly very Anglocentric” and unsuitable for Scots.

How very awful of King George VI to bestow the highest civilian award for bravery on someone. His Majesty had that honor created so that he could personally recognize all that the people of the realm did in the war effort. That’s so very Anglo-centric and evil. Not at all suitable.

Fair warning: next time, England will just ignore you. After you slap someone in the face enough, they get the picture.
