Middleton Makeover

January 27th, 2011 No comments

Kate has the greatest skin and her eyes are beautiful. At the engagement press conference, however, I noted that her right eyebrow seemed to be a little off and her eyeliner was extremely heavy. It inspired me to play with a new look for her.

Like Kate, I love my eyeliner. My eyes disappear in photos without some sort of color or definition, but Kate’s coloring is much darker than mine so she can definitely carry off lighter makeup. Below, I altered her photo slightly with interesting results.

UPDATE: Some people said that the arch of the new brows is too severe. Here is Kate with gentler eyebrow curves (via Princess Marie of Denmark). I agree, Kate looks better here:

Kate’s New Title as Princess

November 16th, 2010 2 comments

Upon her marriage to Prince William, Kate will become a Princess.

What will her actual title be? It remains to be seen.

A Washington Post article discusses the possibilities.

Once Prince Charles becomes king, he could make William The Prince of Wales. Kate would then assume the title of Princess of Wales, but that scenario is far in the future. Her Majesty is still as strong and healthy as ever at 84.

The Washington Post speculates that William, and Kate by extension, will progress through titles, much like King George V and Queen Mary.

Before becoming king, Prince George was known as the Duke of York, the second son of the Prince of Wales (the future King Edward VII). When George married Princess Mary of Teck, she became the Duchess of York.

After Queen Victoria’s death, Edward become king and gave George the title Prince of Wales (George’s elder brother Prince Albert Victor had died in 1892 at the age of 28). Mary became the Princess of Wales.

After the death of Edward VII, George became King George V and Mary became his Queen Consort.

Breathe a little easier, everyone! Prince William and Kate Middleton ARE engaged.

Clarence House says Prince Charles is “delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton.”

The palace says they got engaged last month during a vacation in Kenya. They are due to marry next spring or summer in London.

William and Kate getting married… but when?

Ever since the media reported that the Royal Mint was creating a coin in honor of Prince William’s engagement, voters have gone bananas with the poll:

A source told The Mail on Sunday that he’d seen the mold for the commemorative coin at the Mint’s Llantrisant plant in South Wales. The news of this possible creation sent royal wedding watchers into a tizzy.

Clarence House denies that there are any preparations to mint such a coin, but that doesn’t stop the public guessing the date of William’s engagement to Kate Middleton. Some people say it will be next year, others say it will be in 2012. Whatever the date may be, vote now for the style of ring the Prince may choose for Kate here (images available). Will he pick one of these styles, or go down a completely different road?

Is Kate really the only choice? Probably.

CHELTENHAM, UNITED KINGDOM - MARCH 16: Kate Middleton, the girlfriend of Prince William, looks on from the Royal Box on the fourth day of The Annual National Hunt Festival held at Cheltenham Racecourse on March 16, 2007 in Cheltenham, England. (Photo by Ryan Pierse/Getty Images)

In an article for Taki’s Magazine, writer Nadine Jolie says that Prince William has to settle for Kate Middleton whether he likes it or not. Settle he has – it seems that no one else can be produced nor are they willing to step forward. Or, God forbid, Kate and Wills really love each other!

Jolie lists a few potential mates that she says would be preferable to Miss Middleton: Princess Madeleine of Sweden, Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark, and Monaco’s Charlotte Casiraghi, Grace Kelly’s granddaughter (how would that be for Anglo-American relations!).

Even though Europe still has a few single princesses up its collective sleeve, it would seem improbable that the heir to Queen Elizabeth II would marry another royal or a European at this point. However, to this blogger, marrying another royal would benefit the monarchy in Britain. The girl would already be a princess to begin with, so no speculation about social climbing. She would most likely have money, so there would be no accusations of “gold digging”. The girl would know what is expected in a royal marriage and already be acclimated to the limelight. The perfect solution!

Jolie produces some good ideas, except for Charlotte Casiraghi. I like her, but she is not British princess material. She’s far too carefree, having lived the glamorous high life in her family’s Mediterranean principality since she was born. Charlotte is undoubtedly elegant and poised, but the British Royal Family would be too restrictive for her. Monaco is royalty with a small ‘r’; Britain is royalty with a capital ‘R’ with mountains of world history on its shoulders. Diana Spencer was looking to marry into what she thought would be similar to Grimaldi glamor, but she realized too late that the Windsors did not work that way.

Jolie also points out that many aristocratic, well-heeled girls like Diana already knew that about their monarchy and turned Prince Charles down. The same can most likely be said for the aristo English roses of today. Arabella Musgrave, Olivia Hunt, and the triple-barreled traditional aristocrat Isabella Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe are all shying away from being a royal bride. So, Kate Middleton it is.
