Get Me To The Airport On Time
While William and Kate are making sure they get to the church on time, millions of Britons will be jetting off to other destinations.
Taking advantage of the extended break, which includes Easter, the Royal Wedding and the first May Bank Holiday, most Brits will be heading abroad. A majority of Britons will be heading to New York thanks to the Pound’s high against the US Dollar.
The Big Apple isn’t the only destination on their maps, however. According to Travelex, Paris ranks as the second most popular destination; next is Berlin, followed by Madrid and Rome.
Below is the list of cities that the jolly British will be visiting with bells on. Which of the accommodations would you prefer? So many goodies to choose from:
New York
Travelex’s research reveals that Royal fans heading to New York can catch the action at the New York Palace Hotel. The luxury hotel on Madison Avenue is hosting a special breakfast event to mark the grand occasion. Guests can enjoy a full English breakfast in the Drawing Room while watching the ceremony on flat screen TVs.
The lavish Trump International Hotel and Tower is offering guests a special breakfast at their exclusive Jean Georges restaurant while showing the ceremony on giant screens. The breakfast begins at 5am with a special tasting menu fit for a Prince and Princess.
Paris
For Brits heading off to Paris, they’ll feel right at home watching the occasion at the Hotel Britannique, which boasts a traditionally British style and décor.
Berlin
Brits heading to Berlin can find a royal party at The Circus Berlin Hostel, which provides cut price accommodation and a vibrant atmosphere. Guests have WiFi access throughout the hostel so are able to watch the ceremony online at their leisure. With televisions throughout the adjoining Goldman’s Bar, guests can enjoy a beer while watching the ceremony on satellite TV.
Those lucky enough to belong to the exclusive chain of Soho House private members clubs can visit the Berlin branch. The Soho House Berlin features a full spa and gym, a rooftop pool, restaurants, bars, and a screening room, which, subject to demand, will broadcast the whole ceremony live.
Rome
Those looking for a home-away-from-home atmosphere on their visit to Rome can enjoy the plush surroundings of the 4-star Hotel Brittania Rome. There are satellite televisions in every room, free Wi-Fi internet access throughout the hotel and a TV area with bar ensure that no Royal fan will miss the action.
Madrid
Royal fans visiting Madrid can catch the action at Hotel Silken Puerta America, a fusion of American and Spanish culture. With Wi-Fi access throughout and LCD televisions in each room, you can view the ceremony while surrounded by stylish modern architecture – each floor in the hotel being designed by a different ‘author.’ For those who like a tipple, the Marmo Bar provides a stunning environment in which to enjoy a post-ceremony drink.
Says Graham Edgar, Travelex UK: “The Royal Wedding has meant more holiday for less leave and with the Pound up in value against both the Euro and the Dollar it’s also more bang for your buck, so little wonder so many Brits are heading abroad.”
Travelex’s special ‘Royal Getaway Happy Hour’, which is running from 12 noon on Tuesday 19th April 2011, offers extra special rates on all currencies online and in all stores nationwide.
